在实践实习中历练成长，宁诺经济系黄海晨被耶鲁大学2万美元带“薪”录取

这学期，宁波诺丁汉大学学子获世界各大名校录取的喜报频传。我们从人文社科学院获悉，该学院经济学毕业生黄海晨拿到了常青藤名校——耶鲁大学的健康政策与经济学硕士课程录取通知书。此外，他也因优异的表现拿到该校授予的20000美元奖学金。

在不断尝试中逐渐明确目标

从小怀揣着从事金融业理想的黄海晨，在初入大学时选择了国际商务专业。随着入学后通过旁听机会接触了不少经济学的专业课程，他认为经济学更契合自己未来的发展方向，并在大一结束后转去了经济学专业。

“经济学专业更加注重基础课程，尤其是数学，量化课程占比很高。”黄海晨表示，对于即将踏入大二的他来说，必须付出更多的时间和精力，补上大一在基础课程领域所落下的内容。

于是在大一暑假，黄海晨参加了由学校数学系主任亲自授课的数学夏校课程，充分学习了微积分、线性代数、概率统计等课程，为接下来的学习奠定了扎实的基础。

“在宁诺的暑假，学生可以充分运用暑期实践，针对自己的发展规划，尽情做出尝试。”黄海晨表示，一直以来，宁波诺丁汉大学都为学生们安排了丰富多彩的暑期活动，如暑期社会实践项目、暑期科研实习项目、夏校等，为他们提供广阔的发展平台。

除了夏校，黄海晨还在暑期实习项目中参加了在银行、券商等领域的实习，对金融行业有了初步的了解，并发现这些都并不是自己喜欢的领域。

2021年夏天，黄海晨在宁诺上海校友会的推荐下进入上海复星资本的私人产权投资部门实习，接触了寻找并投资具高成长性但未上市企业的工作，并意识到他在金融行业真正感兴趣的领域是投资。

此外，他还先后在长城证券、中信证券和德勤等公司的投资部门实习，并了解到，现在投资行业越来越注重行业细分以及专精化。

对此，黄海晨开始寻找能接触到其他行业的复合发展机会，并通过疫情关注到了生物医药以及大健康的概念，由此展开了金融与健康交叉的科研和实践。这些都为他后来成功申请到耶鲁大学健康政策与经济学专业打下了基础。

让耶鲁大学对他青睐有加

优异的学术成绩、丰富的实习经历、优秀的文书、阵容强大的推荐信团队……正是这一项项的优势叠加，让黄海晨最终被耶鲁大学录取。

“宁诺的课堂都是全英文授课，首先从语言上就让我们有了非常好的基础，其次是整个的学习氛围，我们有非常多来自海外的教授和同学，会接受到更加国际化的教学理念和思维方式。”黄海晨表示，宁诺高度国际化的环境和小班化的专业课程教学让他在学术上获得优异的成绩，这也是他被耶鲁大学录取的重要原因。

能够从全球申请者中脱颖而出，黄海晨认为他自己撰写的文书也是一个加分项。因为对自身发展具有明确的规划和相对应的丰富经历，再加上学校的文书写作讲座等各类服务的加持，在令大部分学子头疼的文书上，黄海晨并没有花费太多精力就完成了写作策划。

此外，宁诺经济系刘畅教授为黄海晨写的推荐信更是让他的申请材料备受耶鲁大学青睐。

“非常感谢宁诺为我提供了这么多平台与机会，让我如愿被耶鲁大学录取。”谈及宁诺，黄海晨充满感激之情，“校园内充满了大量的机会，同学们也拥有大把自由的时间。只要能够把握住机会，利用好时间，成长便是水到渠成的事。”

UNNC economics student admitted by Yale with a $20,000 scholarship

Recently, Haichen Huang, an economics graduand of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC), has received an offer letter from Yale University for their master's programme in Health Policy and Economics. In addition, he has also received a $20,000 scholarship from Yale University for his outstanding performance. He said: “It is the four years of growth at UNNC that has enabled me to realise my dream.”

“The study of economics focuses more on basic subjects, especially mathematics,” said Haichen. Therefore, in the summer vacation of his first years, he participated in the maths summer school taught by the dean of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the university, during which he fully studied calculus, linear algebra, probability, statistics and other courses, laying a solid foundation for his following study.

Haichen recalled that UNNC arranged a variety of summer activities for students, such as summer social practice programmes, summer scientific research and internship opportunities, summer schools, and so on. “Students can try everything according to their own development plans.”

In addition to attending the summer school, Haichen had two internships in the financial industry. The COVID-19 pandemic caused him to pay attention to biomedicine and comprehensive health. He thereby launched scientific research and practice combined with finance and health.

“Modules at UNNC are all taught in English, which has laid a very solid language foundation for us. The learning atmosphere on campus is also excellent,” Haichen believed that UNNC’s highly international environment and small class teaching of professional modules are key to his excellent academic performance. All these have contributed to his successful application to Yale.

With a clear plan for his own development, rich relevant experience, and support from the university in aspects, Haichen completed his essay writing and planning easily, which gave him another edge. In addition, the letter of recommendation from Professor Chang Liu from the School of Economics, UNNC provided further support for his application.

Speaking of UNNC, Haichen is full of gratitude, “There are a lot of opportunities on campus. So long as you can make good use of your time, growth will come naturally.”
