诸葛亮还曾给蒋琬、费祎写信，称姜维是凉州上士，有胆略，并让姜维统领五六千虎步军，还让姜维去成都，拜见刘禅，可见诸葛亮对姜维之看重，此后不久，诸葛亮又迁升姜维为中监军、征西将军（赵云最高不过做到镇南将军）。
