1918年12月30日，孙中山撰写《孙文学说》成书。此乃《建国方略》的一部分。书中提出“知难行易”学说。认为“行先知后”，即实践先于认识、知是从行中求得的，行是验证知的标准、表达了唯物主义认识论的观点。
但以为有先知先觉者、后知后觉者和不知不觉者，则又陷入了唯心论。他强调“知难行易”，对于激励遭到挫折的革命者，推动革命发展，起了有益的作用。
