在去年 9 月的时候，Steam 曾进行过一次更新，其中包含有“neptuneGamesCollection ”（海王星游戏合集）、 "Device Optimized Games" 等含义不明的字样。
而根据 SteamDB 网站创办者 Pavel Djundik 介绍， “neptune”（海王星）这一词又出现在了近期的 Steam 更新里，并同时伴随有一些不寻常的内容：快速访问、暂停、WiFi 和蓝牙设置等选项，以及“SteamPal”和“SteamPal Games”等字眼。
Pavel Djundik 认为，这些新选项让 “neptune” 的含义有了一些指向性 —— 这很可能是某种手持式游戏设备。
考虑到 Valve 过去确实多次涉足硬件领域，如 Steam 游戏手柄、Steam Link 串流盒等，这一猜测并非不可能。
此外 Valve 首席执行官加布·纽威尔也在近期采访中表示，Steam 将在今年末放出一些新消息。所谓“新消息”是否就是指一台全新的游戏机呢？让我们拭目以待。
