湖南省人民政府网站2月20日发布消息：2021年1月20日，经国务院批准，民政部批复同意撤销祁阳县，设立县级祁阳市。行政区划变更后，祁阳市行政区域范围和人民政府驻地保持原祁阳县行政区域范围和人民政府驻地不变，由湖南省直辖，永州市代管；辖20镇3乡3街道，523个建制村82个居委会，总面积2538平方千米，总人口105.26万人。
