目前，中国空军已经形成了以新一代隐形战机为骨干，三代隐形战机为主体，二代隐形战机为辅助装备体系。在新一代隐形战机歼-20已经投入使用、三代及三代半战斗机已经大量部署的大环境下，第二代歼-8和歼-7系列仍然存在。这是由中国空军目前的发展需求形成的。
