庞泉沟位于交城县西北部，与离石区、方山县毗邻，是国家级自然保护区，主要保护对象是中国特有的珍禽褐马鸡及华北落叶松、云杉天然次生林。保护区南北长15公里，东西宽14.5公里，森林覆盖率86%。 保护区内植物种类有88科828种，野生动物238种。区内最高峰孝文山，海拔2831米，为华北地区第二高峰。
