据扬子晚报，梅艳芳母亲覃美金8月30日去世，享年102岁，死因疑为进食噎到，送医抢救无效。覃美金生前曾为中医医师，育有两儿两女，三个子女已先后因癌症离世。梅艳芳4岁起便被迫辍学随母卖艺，2003年去世后留下逾亿港元遗产。 按照梅艳芳遗嘱，覃美金去世后信托终止，剩余遗产将转交妙境佛学会。
