8月6日，特斯拉表示，其名为“Terafab”的芯片制造工厂将建设于美国得克萨斯州格赖姆斯县。公司称，今年4月已在得州超级工厂北区启动研究芯片工厂建设，该项目将作为Terafab的前期基础。
特斯拉表示，特斯拉和SpaceX未来对芯片的需求将远超当前及未来全球芯片产能，因此公司计划建设“有史以来规模最大的芯片制造设施”，目标每年生产超过1太瓦的计算能力。
