瑙鲁共和国政府日前在社交媒体上发布公告说，该国国名已由“Nauru”正式更改为“Naoero”。联合国已接到瑙鲁的相关通知并在其官网进行了更改，其中涉及英语、法语等语言，但该国中文名“瑙鲁”维持不变。
The Pacific Island country of Nauru has changed its name to the Republic of Naoero, its president said, matching the spelling and pronunciation in the national language.
The move returns the remote South Pacific island nation to its traditional name, a statement posted on the government's Facebook account said.

公告说，瑙鲁总统阿迪昂于7月20日在议会发表讲话说，在经过广泛讨论后决定恢复国家传统名称“Naoero”，同时不就此事进行全民公决。阿迪昂表示，新国名是国民的身份认同，早已出现在国徽上，是宪法所允许的。这一决定无关政治，而关乎身份认同、历史传承。
The name-change proposal was first put forward by President David Adeang in January. The Nauru government previously stated that the name "Naoero" better reflects the nation's heritage, language and identity.
The government said in last week's statement that after "extensive discussions", lawmakers had decided a public vote was not needed.
"While a referendum is intended to determine the will of the people, the name Naoero has never been lost, but rather waiting to be fully embraced," the statement said.
The designation "is already the identity of the people, is on the national coat of arms, and spoken in the community; and importantly is allowed by the constitution," it added.
公告还说，瑙鲁已正式向国际组织及世界各国发出了更名通知。
The government was already seeking to have other countries and international institutions recognise the shift, its statement said.
今年5月，瑙鲁议会通过了更改国名的宪法修正案。当时瑙鲁政府表示该修正案还需经全民公投通过。

瑙鲁位于中太平洋，由一个独立的珊瑚礁岛及周边海域构成。该国陆地面积21.1平方公里，人口约1.3万人。英语为官方语言，通用瑙鲁语。
