2026年7月22日晚，刘德华在一场活动中亲口承诺："我2028年一定会成为一个导演，大家放心。" 他表示，在把2028年的演唱会好好唱完之后，就开始"当一次真真正正的导演"。这是刘德华继早年多次流露导演梦之后，首次给出明确的时间表。
刘德华在1981年考入香港无线电视（TVB）第10期艺员训练班的，当时20岁的他就想往导演、编剧方向发展。
