在德尚之前，唯一实现这一成就的是德国传奇主帅赫尔穆特-舍恩。舍恩曾执教西德队，在1966年、1970年和1974年连续三届世界杯中均带队至少进入半决赛，其中1966年获得亚军，1970年获得季军，1974年则成功夺冠。
