北京时间6月16日，乌拉圭队对阵沙特队的世界杯首轮比赛中，乌拉圭门将穆斯莱拉首发登场。他也就此刷新了此前由戈丁保持的乌拉圭队史最年长世界杯出场球员纪录。
穆斯莱拉在对阵沙特阿拉伯的比赛中，以39岁364天的年龄，超越迭戈-戈丁（36岁285天），成为乌拉圭国家队历史上在世界杯比赛中出场年龄最大的球员。
