却发现自己钉在原地，被路过的人碰过来撞过去

婉芹抱着那包衣服，正准备往回走，一抬头，看见了陈大同。他蹲在街对面的廊檐下，正低头刨一块木板，刨花卷起来，堆在他脚边，薄薄的，透光，像一层冻住的浪。他的工友在旁边喊他，他抬头，看见了婉芹。也看见了她身后的马老板，看见了那包花花绿绿的小孩衣裳。他的脸一下子僵了。不是生气，是怕。他怕自己等错了，怕她早就选了别人，怕自己那根断了的手指白断了。他把刨子往地上一放，站起来，转身走进了巷子。

婉芹张嘴要喊，嗓子里像被人掐住了，喊不出声，腿像灌了铅，一步也迈不动。她想追，却发现自己钉在原地，被路过的人碰过来撞过去，有人看了她一眼，又走了。她看见陈大同的背影被巷口的阴影吞没，想叫住他，嘴唇哆嗦了几回，愣是一个字也挤不出来。她不知道自己是怎么回到村子的。

婉芹没有回家。她一个人走到槐花树下，蹲下来，把脸埋在膝盖里。槐花落了她一肩，她也不拂。她想着他蹲在廊檐下刨木头的背影，想起他缺了一截小指的左手，想起他说“你等我”时哑得几乎听不见的嗓音。她想告诉他——我没有跟马老板，我肯定是被骗了。她想追上去，可她怕，怕他不信，怕他板着脸，怕他眼睛里没有她。

她从小就怕被人丢弃，后娘的巴掌打得她不敢吭声，村里人的白眼看得她不敢抬头。她缩在槐花树下，像一个做错事的孩子，把整个瘦削的脊背弯成一张弓，下巴抵着膝盖，不知道在等谁。她知道他误会了，却不敢讲。

陈大同折进了巷子以后，靠在墙上站了一会儿。工友在后面喊他，他没应，怕一出声嗓子就漏了馅。他返回把那根刨了一半的木头捡起来，翻来覆去地看，上面还留着刚才没刨完的半朵木花，纹路扭在一起，像什么揪着的心。工友问他怎么了，他摇摇头，把刨花拢起来装进袋子里，蹲下身又开始刨。刨花一卷一卷地落，他就那么蹲了一下午，天快黑时才收了摊。

回村的路上经过槐花树，他看见了那件蓝布衫子。婉芹还蹲在那里没动，衣裳上落满了花，像是从树根长出来的一株草。他站在远处看了很久，不敢走近，也舍不得走。月亮升起来了，把槐花树照得发白，把她的影子拉得又长又薄。陈大同远远地看她不开心，还是心疼的。

第二天，陈大同没有去找婉芹，而是去了刘婆家，给刘婆的女儿捉了一只鸟。又去村后的溪沟里捞了几条小鱼，养在盆里，端到刘婆家门口。刘婆女儿拍着手笑，像过年一样高兴，把鸟笼挂在门檐下，蹲在盆边拿树棍拨鱼，拨一下笑一声，鱼从水里跳出半尺高，水花溅了她一脸。刘婆的傻女儿玩弄陈大同逮的小鱼。

陈大同做这些事。婉芹总是装作没看到，她闭上了眼睛，塞住耳朵。村里长舌妇却专门跑来告诉她，绘声绘色，连陈大同蹲在刘婆院子里吃了几碗茶都说得一清二楚。婉芹没说话，她把洗好的衣裳一件一件晾在绳子上，够不着就踮起脚尖。她晾完了衣裳，又去喂鸡，蹲在鸡窝前，看着，鸡把食一粒一粒从地上啄起来喂到自己嘴边又放下。她不知道自己蹲了多久，只知道腿麻了，站起来的时候，眼前黑了一阵，扶着墙才没倒下。婉芹不想看到和听到他关心别人。

黄昏时分，婉芹一个人又去了槐花树下。她靠在树干上，把前几天被后娘打青的那只胳膊缩进袖子里。后娘的笤帚疙瘩打断了，碎竹签扎进她的上臂，她不敢拔，怕留疤也不敢找人帮忙，就那么忍着。血干了，把袖子和伤口粘在一起，每次一抬手都像在撕一层皮。她靠在树上，看着山坡下的村庄，炊烟袅袅升起，有几家已经亮起了灯。她不知道哪一盏灯是陈大同家的。
