北京时间4月21日，NBA官方宣布文班亚马获得年度最佳防守球员（DPOY）。
至此，文班亚马以22岁107天的年龄成为有史以来最年轻的NBA年度最佳防守球员得主。
他也是自大卫-罗宾逊（1991-92赛季在马刺队获得DPOY）以来首位在前三个赛季内赢得该奖项的球员。
