资源县因地处资江源头，1935年建县时定名“资源” 。民国24年（1935年）7月，划原全县（今全州）西延8乡、兴安县车田与浔源2乡，共10乡置县，隶桂林行政监督区。1952年曾撤县，1954年恢复，1998年起隶属桂林市 。
