The Power Slap competition, founded by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White, features a format where two contestants stand opposite each other and take turns delivering open-handed slaps to the face with full force.
The primary criticism is that the sport carries a high risk of concussion and traumatic brain injury, as competitors are hit with full force to the head with no opportunity to defend themselves.
Critics have called it a "stupid activity" with no redeeming sporting value and are concerned it normalizes or glorifies violence, especially for social media. Some see it as a way to make money from a dangerous and violent activity under the guise of a sport.
