9月25日，在雷军年度演讲中，雷军回顾2018年小米芯片研发决策。雷军表示，2018年小米做出艰难决定，暂停芯片研发，团队缩编，继续做一些小芯片，保留火种。雷军回忆当时复盘，发现中国在芯片领域落后，需从高端切入。
他指出，苹果和华为都是从最高端切入，没有手机公司从低端切入成功。这一结论让小米意识到方向错误，自研芯片需要手机团队全力支持。
