轴向摩擦现象的模拟，通常用于旋转机械（涡轮机、压缩机、交流发电机、泵等）的转子动力学和预测性维护。
在旋转机器中，转子（转轴）必须自由旋转而不接触定子。
但是，如果轴轴向运动（沿其轴线从左到右）并与挡块或固定表面摩擦，则称为轴向摩擦。
这种现象很危险，因为它会导致：
异常振动，
表面磨损，
温度升高，
甚至是严重故障（转子堵塞或破裂）。
