据中国足协官方统计，国足历史上与中国香港共交锋27次，取得18胜7平2负的战绩，进48球失7球。
两队最近一次碰面是在去年元旦的一场热身赛上，当时国足1-2遭中国香港逆转，创下38年来对中国香港的首次失利。
另一次负于中国香港则是在1985年5月19日，当时国足在世预赛坐镇工体主场1-2告负。
