Liam Gallagher, frontman of the iconic British rock band Oasis, sparked outrage on Tuesday after using the racist term "Chingchong" in a social media post. This term is a derogatory imitation of Asian accents and is particularly used to mock people of Chinese origin or those perceived to be Chinese. The offensive message was later deleted.
Facing backlash, Gallagher issued an apology later the same day, saying, "Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn’t intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. Peace and love." Despite the apology, Gallagher provided no context or explanation for his decision to use the derogatory slur in the first place.
“Ching Chong”
