战国《竹书纪年》和汉代《史记》等史书中记载，黄帝的父亲少典是有熊部落首领，而有熊国就在新郑，所以黄帝当生于新郑轩辕之丘。古时女子称姓，男子称氏。因为黄帝是有熊国君少典的后裔，所以称黄帝为有熊氏。
