埃及投资和自由区总局（GAFI）与军事生产部合作，启动了一项耗资170亿美元的项目，在南西奈省（South Sinai）南部建造世界上最大的绿色氢工厂。
该工厂将建在127平方公里的土地上，目标是每年生产多达40万吨的绿色氢。
项目第一阶段预计在2030年完成，第二阶段在2033年完成，第三阶段在2035年完成。
