本轮英甲联赛，维冈竞技在主场1-2不敌雷丁，33轮过后仅积39分排在积分榜第15名。因本赛季战绩不及管理层预期，维冈竞技最终决定换帅。
现年42岁的马洛尼于2023年1月接手维冈竞技，至今共计带队出战115场比赛，战绩为45胜27平43负。
