北京时间2月5日，F1法拉利车队官方宣布，中国车手周冠宇成为车队储备车手。周冠宇随后发文写道：“很开心成为法拉利F1车队的储备车手，感谢车队对我的认可，时隔六年重回跃马，期待这全新的篇章！”
2015年至2018年间，周冠宇曾在法拉利青训学院度过四年的时光，并以法拉利青训车手的身份征战F4、F3。
