The Sub-Forum on Cultural Strength and Development Opportunities of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) of Forum on Building up China's Cultural Strength 2024 was held in Shenzhen on 24 May.

A number of guests discussed the humanistic spirit, cultural integration and development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), sharing ideas on making the GBA a land of opportunity. In addition, Cantonese Opera and Yingge Dance were performanced at the forum.

Cultural logic and imagination are irreplaceable. There are some things that artificial intelligence (AI) cannot replace, such as history, paintings, and aesthetics, said Han Meilin, professor of Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua Unversity, at the forum.

Lingnan culture is an important part of Chinese culture. It is also the shared culture of the Greater Bay Area. It is the name card and DNA of this region, said Tian Qing, librarian of the Central Research Institute of Culture and History, honorary director of the Institute of Music of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, at the forum.

"Macao, with its blend of Chinese and Western cultures, has all the basic conditions for spreading Chinese traditional culture, Chinese values and Chinese ideas to the world and participating in the construction of common human values. We are also responsible to shoulder this historical responsibility", said Wu Zhiliang, President of the Macao Foundation, President of the Federation of Associations of Cultural Sectors of Macau, at the forum.

"I have truly felt the integration of the Greater Bay Area in the past decade. We need more cultural exchanges and cooperation to consolidate the hard-won achievements of integration, and we need more common languages, common topics and common cultural identity", said Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, Hong Kong deputy to the 14th National People's Congress, member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chairman of Hong Kong Arts Development Council, at the forum.

Young people should seize the opportunities of the Greater Bay Area (GBA), contribute with their peers to maintain the development and growth of GBA. The GBA is full of opportunities, a first-class business environment, and innovative and entrepreneurial resources, said Mario Ho, Chairman and CEO of NIP Group, at the forum.

Cantonese Opera was performed at the forum. Cantonese Opera, originated from southern opera, is popular in Guangdong Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Hong Kong and Macao.

Yingge Dance was performed at the forum. Yingge Dance, literally the Songs of Heroes dance, is a traditional folk dance that originated from the Chaoshan area of South China's Guangdong Province.
