库木塔格沙漠位于新疆吐鲁番盆地东缘，鄯善县城南。沙漠东西长62公里，南北宽40公里，面积1880平方公里。库木塔格沙漠是世界上离城市最近的沙漠，是塔克拉玛干沙漠的一部分。站在鄯善老城向南望去，金色的大漠雄浑壮观。
