董仲舒《春秋繁露·十指》，前三指最为重要："举事变见有重焉，一指也。
见事变之所至者，二指也。
因其所以至者而治之，三指也。"
事变之所至是结果，所以至者是原因。既知原因，想方法对治他，以求免于恶结果，便是作《春秋》的本意。
