刚得到最新消息，佳能一款RF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM已经开启了工程机测试阶段，据称，这款新头是专为EOS R微单系统全新设计的，，也正因此，佳能做了轻量化，小型化设计。
其与EF的前身相比，重量减少了近40%，长度减少了30%，不过预计这款镜头将会在2023年的上半年才会上市。
这枚新镜头虽然没有确切的尺寸和重量，但可以推断佳能一直在镜头重量的减轻上下功夫。
