当地时间7月30日，危地马拉总统府证实，当天总统贾马太及随行在该国韦韦特南戈省农村地区通行时遭袭，总统本人无恙。事发后，贾马太总统车队返回该国首都危地马拉城。
最新警方通报显示，事发时一辆可疑车辆在总统车队附近，随行安保人员示意其停车接受检查，枪手随即开枪射击。目前，已有4名危地马拉籍嫌疑人被逮捕。
