Sunshine is a mix of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo (靛蓝) and violet (紫色).Each color has a different wavelength (波长). Blue has one of the shortest wavelengths.
赤橙黄绿青蓝紫,阳光由七色光组成,每一种颜色的光都有一定的波长。其中,蓝光波长最短。
Earth’s atmosphere (大气层) is full of tiny air molecules (分子). When light hits them, it gets scattered (散射) around.
大气层充满了空气分子,阳光穿过,就会就发生散射。
According to the website HowStuffWorks, light with shorter wavelength bounces like a ping-pong ball until it reaches our eyes.Blue light,which is about half the wavelength of red light,is scattered almost 10 times as strongly as red light.So blue is the main color of the atmosphere.
大气对不同颜色的光散射强度不同,散射蓝光最多,红光最少,散射出的的蓝光可达红光的10倍!因此,我们更多感受到的是散射最强的蓝光。
More distance from a mountain means more atmosphere. Eventually,the mountain disappears into the sky as we only see blue light.The same thing happens with tall buildings, too.
也正因如此,离山越远,远山的反射光会被空气不断吸引和散射,山本身的颜色就被空气中的最强蓝色散射光的颜色所掩盖。这样,我们便觉得所有的远山都是蓝色的。同样的事情也发生在高层建筑上。
