据中国地震台网正式测定，北京时间1月29日10时46分（当地时间1月28日14时46分）在新西兰克马德克群岛发生6.5级地震，震源深度10千米，震中位于南纬29.50度，西经176.45度。
震中300公里范围内没有大中城市分布。震中5公里范围内平均海拔约-6159米。
