每年的4月，沉睡一冬的青海湖开始慢慢苏醒，以“开湖”的方式唤醒青海湖的春天。
3月27日起，青海湖鸟岛南部、海心山四周冰面出现裂缝，泉吉河入口、沙岛湖、尕海大范围开始解冻。由于3月下旬环湖周边气温升高、风速增大，加速湖面解冻，今年青海湖出现解冻迹象较上年提前17天。
