4月2日，台铁一列太鲁阁号408次列车从树林火车站出发前往台东，行经花莲崇德、和仁间，在清水隧道发生出轨事故。搜救工作已展开。截至记者发稿时，事故总共造成包含司机在内的50人罹难，146名乘客受轻重伤，列车中目前已无人受困。
