北京时间2月18日，前韩国国脚李天秀在一档娱乐节目中，谈到了02年世界杯他一脚踢倒马尔蒂尼那一幕，他承认自己是故意踢的这一脚。
李天秀说道：“当时的意大利人很高傲，他们看不起韩国球员，我是把马尔蒂尼踢了，我踢的不是因为他是谁，而是因为他刚好出现在了那里。”
2002世界杯，韩国队在淘汰赛中淘汰了意大利，而李天秀这一脚并没有遭到裁判的处罚。
