Jordan Road

上海滩商业繁华，远东国际都市上海有2条有代表的马路，一条是南京西路步行街，闻名世界，另外一条便是20世纪20-30年代有远东东方巴黎香榭尔大街著称的霞飞路。

Shanghai is known as an international metropolis in the Far East. There are two essential roads that reveal the Shanghai’s prosperity. The first one is world-famous Nanjing West Pedestrian Road. The second one is Jordan Road, which is also known as the Avenue Des Champs-Elyses of the Far East, from the 1920s to the 1930s.

霞飞路是今淮海中路主干的曾用名,淮海路是上海著名商业街，在上世纪30年代即以幽美、繁华和富有异国情调而享誉中外。

Jordan Road is the former name of today’s Huaihai Middle Road. Huaihai Road is a famous commercial street in Shanghai and is well-known for its beauty, prosperity and exotic charm since 1930s.

Shanghai-style architecture is derived from Shanghai-style culture. It shows the value orientation of different cultures in that time. The Shanghai-style architecture formed and developed when the western culture was introduced to China. It brought advanced architectural theories and technologies. Shanghai-style architectures are diversified, inclusive, and innovative. The representative buildings are as follows.

Features of Shanghai-style architecture

材料——在厚重的石材、精细的拼砖、极富装饰的细部，形成了海派建筑富有变化，但强调坚实、细致的生活观念。

Materials-The heavy stones, delicate bricks and ornamental details generates the diverse, solid, and detailed concept of Shanghai-style architecture.

线条——强调建筑挺拔耸立的竖线条及其形成的韵律感

Lines-The vertical lines of buildings and their sense of rhythm are emphasized.

装饰——延续海派建筑精美细致的檐口、山花、柱头以及门窗套等， 体现海派建筑风情。

Decoration-The elegant and delicate cornices, pediments, column heads, door pockets, and window casings of Shanghai-style architecture show their charm.

历史发展

Historical Development

露香园与豫园、日涉园合称为明代上海三大名园。明嘉靖年间道州太守顾名儒购城北黑山桥地筑万竹山房,开辟旷地,凿池得石,上有露香池三字,便称此园露香园。

Aroma Garden,Yu Garden, and Rishe Garden are considered as three famous gardens in Shanghai during the Ming Dynasty. During Jiajing Period of the Ming Dynasty, Gu Mingru, Prefecture Chief of Daozhou, purchased the land of Heishanqiao in the north of the city and built Wanzhushanfang. While he was constructing the local free land, he got a stone with “Aroma Pond” appeared on the surface. He then named this garden “Aroma Garden”.

露香园地区历史发展

History of the surrounding area

露香园地区城市发展晚于西侧法租界地区，发展过程中经过了统一规划，寻求与西侧租界区域的相互联系。
The urban development of the area where the Aroma Garden is located was later than that of the French Concession Area on the west side. In the process of development, after the unified planning, it was connected to the Concession Area on the west side.

形成几条街巷，呈现有 机生长模式。

Several streets and alleys were formed and the organic growth pattern was shown.

城墙拆除，老城厢直接与法租界交汇、发展。

The city walls were dismantled and the Old City Area directly intersected and developed with the Old City Area.

法租界影响从老城厢东北部延伸至西北部。

The impact of theFrench Concession extended from thenortheast part of the Old City Area to the northwest part.

街巷系统形成，交通体系直接与西侧贯通。

The street and alley system was formed and the transportation system was directly connected to the west side.

TheAroma Garden Area is close to the new-style lane development area of theFrench Concession. Its architectural style is greatly affected by the new-style lanes, Art Deco, and other European architectures.

本项目作为住宅性质的房地产开发项目，必须依托市场，将露香园地区打造成为“体现海派建筑文化内涵，承载老城厢城市发展历程，重现黄浦区繁盛城市景观”，能够代表上海中心城区居住文化的旧城改造示范住区。

This project is a real estate development project with the nature of the residence. We must rely on the market and build theAroma Garden Area into an old city reconstruction demonstration area that “shows the cultural connotation of Shanghai-style architecture, witnesses the urban development of the Old City Area, reproduces the prosperousurban landscape of Huangpu District”, and represents the residential culture of thecentral urban area of Shanghai.

风貌保护

保持原有老城厢的城市特色，延续传统里弄建筑的空间形式、街道尺度、街道界面特征等，特别是体现露香园地区20世纪20年代左右所形成的建筑风貌特色。

方案设计

Conceptual Design

项目位于黄浦区老城乡的西北角，东部紧邻上海重要旅游区和商业区——豫园、城隍庙和外滩，西部连接上海主要商业圈——淮海路、西藏南路，北临上海行政中心——人民广场和延中绿地，区位优势十分优越。

The project is located in the northwest corner of the Old City Area of Huangpu District. It is close to Yu Garden, Town God's Temple, and the Bund, the important tourist areas and commercial areas in Shanghai, in the east. It connects to Huaihai Road and Tibet South Road, the main business circles in Shanghai, in the west. It is adjacent to People's Square and Yanzhong Green Space, the administration center of Shanghai, in the north. Its regional advantages are very superior.

整个项目将以住宅为主，包括配套设施及商业。露香园一期项目以大境路为界，分为两个区域。北侧为高层公寓，南面是大规模低层住宅。低层住宅区共计5.57公顷（包括学校），其中历史风貌保护区设计范围4.09公顷。

The whole project is mainly residence, including the supporting facilities and stores. Phase I project of the Aroma Garden is divided into two zones by Dajing Road. On the north side is the high-rise apartments and on the south side is the large-scale low-rise dwelling. The area of the low-rise dwelling area is 5.57ha. in total (including a school). Among them, the design scope of the historical style preservation area is 4.09ha.

建筑立面通过对拱、柱、窗及石材线脚等细部设计反应出建筑的传统风貌，以细致的砖工技艺表达建筑厚重底蕴，整栋建筑远看朴实无华，近观精工细作。

The building facade shows the traditional features of the building through the design of details such as arches, columns, windows, and stone architraves. The thick and heavy charm of the building is shown with the delicate brickwork skills. This whole building looks simple from a distance and good craftsmanship can be seen near it.

庭院设计

Design of courtyard

景观设计以门、巷、院属性空间形成起承转合的空间序列，通过景观的巧妙设计与空间的细节打造，令空间更具人性化,进而更贴切人的情感要求。

In the landscape design, the connecting spatial sequence is formed by the attribute space of the door, lane, and yard. Through the design of the landscape and the development of details, the space becomes more human-based.

上海深受Art Deco风格的影响，本项目结合黄浦区海派风格的细部，精心设计了高区建筑的立面细部和具有特色装饰性的屋顶及女儿墙，形成了丰富的天际线，打造了极有品质感的纯石材建筑立面，符合上海老城区的建筑特点。

Shanghai is greatly affected by the style of Art Deco. This project combines the details of the Shanghai style of Huangpu District. Facade details of buildings,distinctive and decorative roof andparapet in the high-rise area are carefully designed and they forms the rich skyline. The gorgeous stonefacade is consistent with thearchitectural features of the Old City Area of Shanghai.

Aroma Garden is our important practice in the urban renewal project. The high-rise area has the best sales in Shanghai for many years and the low-rise area has been widely praised since its launch. This project leads and affects the advanced concept of the reconstruction of the old area, promotes the upgrading of functions of a regional city, and redevelops the historical memory. In the long history of more than 400 years of the Aroma Garden, it has the charm of old times and creates beautiful modern buildings. Aroma Garden combines the classic Yu Garden and the western Jordan Road (Huaihai Middle Road); continuously builds a community with the history, culture, and ecological charm dreamed of by Shanghai citizens; and shows the new scene of social, economic, and cultural exchanges of the central urban area of Shanghai.
