在鸡鸣寺道路两侧，有两株被称为樱花消息树，总是提前于其他樱花开放，而它们的开放，就提前透露出南京樱花季即将到来的信息。
由于连续两天的气温偏高，2月14日南京鸡鸣寺的樱花消息树悄悄地开了，相比去年，消息树开花略早了几天，去年是2月25日开放的。
“消息树”开花，预示着15到20天后，鸡鸣寺路上的樱花将会大面积盛开。
