肥乡作为区域名称，源于战国时期赵惠文王四年，即公元前296年，为褒扬相国肥义，力保幼主血染沙邱宫，以身殉国的壮举，赵惠文王便将邯郸东部作为肥义的封地，让其子孙世袭享用，故此地称肥乡，义取肥义之乡。三国魏黄初二年置县（公元221年），迄今已近1800年历史。
