那么，“冬至”的英语该怎么说呢？
冬至：Winter Solstice
冬至--Winter Solstice，顾名思义是“冬天到来”的意思。它是中国农历中一个非常重要的节气哦，通常在12月21日或者22日。
从这天开始，白天开始变长，黑夜开始变短（指北半球地区哦）。各地气候都进入一个最寒冷的阶段，也就是人们常说的“进九”。
除了是节气，Winter Solstice在我国也是一个传统节日，是家族团聚的一天。
冬至这天有啥传统习俗？
Winter Solstice is a time for the family to get together. One activity that occurs during these get togethers (especially in the southern parts of China and in Chinese communities overseas) is the making and eating of Tangyuan or balls of glutinous rice, which symbolize reunion.
冬至是家族团聚的一天。在这天，中国南方的家庭会包汤圆、吃汤圆，以象征团圆的意思。不过在中国北方，似乎更多的人会吃饺子。比如说会有“冬至到，吃水饺”这样的谚语。
中国人为什么比较重视冬至？
其实，但从中国文化方面讲，“冬至”这个日子还可以翻译成“Dongzhi Festival”，中国人为什么都比较重视这个节气呢？
The origins of this festival can be traced back to the yin and yang philosophy of balance and harmony in the cosmos. After this celebration, there will be days with longer daylight hours and therefore an increase in positive energy flowing in.
原来还是和“阴阳”相关啊。人们认为，过了这一天，白昼一天比一天长了，是一个节气循环的开 始，“阳”气逐渐回升，因此也算是个吉利的日子啦。
中国人为什么比较重视冬至？
而在维基百科里，“冬至”直接就被翻译为了“Dongzhi Festival”,所以同学们也可以直接这样说。

在冬至这天，北方人习惯吃饺子：dumpling。俗话说：“冬至不端饺子碗，冻掉耳朵没人管。”
南方人则习惯吃汤圆，代表和和美美，团团圆圆。汤圆的英语并不需要特别的翻译，以前老外把带馅的都叫dumpling，所以汤圆就是sweet dumpling，但是随着全球化的推进，汉语被越来越多的人熟悉，现在说汤圆，可以直接说汉语拼音：Tangyuan就行了。
