Eat my words可不是“我食言了”啊！那“食言”用英语怎么说？

看到word，学习英语的小伙伴们肯定对它又爱又恨，因为它是咱们学习英语路上的必经之路——背单词。

不过，word在口语中，也常常代表一个人说的话，毕竟一句话是由很多个单词组成的嘛！

那和word有关的词组和句子有哪些呢？咱们来看看！

1）Eat my words

Eat是吃，从字面上看是 “吃了我的话”——很容易理解成“食言”，这是不对的哟！那是啥意思呢？

Eat one’s words means to take back one's statements or confess that one's predictions were wrong，意味着收回某人之前的陈述，承认预测有误。

所以，eat my words其实是指收回前言，收回我之前说过的话（把它咽回去），也可以说take back my words。

看看英语例句：

① You think I can't get an A in this class？I'll make you eat your words when we get the report cards！

你觉得我在这门课上拿不到A？拿到成绩单后，我会让你把这话咽回去的。

② They tried to persuade me to take back my words.

他们试图说服我收回我之前说的话。

2）Go back on one's word

现在明白了吧，eat my words可不是“我食言了”啊！那“食言”用英语怎么说？

我们可以说go back on one's word，it means to break a promise that one has made，意味着一个人“打破了”曾经许下的诺言。

当然，也可以用break one’s promise，表示违背诺言，变卦或失信于人。

英语例句：

① What？You don’t wanna hang out？Going back on your words makes you a liar！

啥？你不出门玩了？食言的行为让你成了一个大骗子！

② Workers are beginning to worry that the manager is going to go back on his words and not raise their salaries.

工人们开始担心这个经理将会食言，不给他们涨薪。

3）Have a word

最后，我们来学一句非常实用的口语句子作为结束，叫做have a word，这可不是“有一个单词”哟，而是指“说几句话”，通常比较简短，可能是私底下的谈话。

所以，have a word可以理解为借一步说话。

英语例句：

① May I have a word with you，Mary？It’s about your son.

玛丽，能借一步说话吗？跟你儿子有关。

② I just had a word with Tom and he said he will join us tonight.

我刚刚和汤姆聊了下，他说今晚他会加入我们。
