建兴十二年秋八月二十八日，诸葛亮病死于五丈原军中，时年五十四岁。他临终前对长史杨仪、司马费祎和护军姜维交代了后事，“死后葬汉中定军山，因山为坟，冢足容棺，殓以时服，不须器物”。同年底，后主刘禅就将其就地安葬在定军山下。
