“机器”(The Machine)在Finch的教导下，学习了人类社会的道德观——人不是棋子，不可以被随意牺牲。人应该有自由意志(Freewill)，有自我选择的权利，所以“机器”只吐号码，不干预人类的决定。
而在“机器”诞生的同时，另一台人工智能——Samaritan（撒马利亚人）也诞生了，最后并通过不择手段取得监控权限成功上线。
然而Samaritan没经过任何价值观道德观的学习，在它眼中,人类需要优化，需要人种选择，需要在它的领导下才能有序生存。
于是这两个Gods一明一暗展开了激烈对决，最后Finch浴火重生的“机器”战胜了Samaritan，人类脱离了Samaritan的魔爪。
