The oldest was going to start high school and had just begun driver’s education. The youngest was to soon go to kindergarten where Mandy Karolkiewicz worked, at Peach Plains Elementary.
“Mandy goes above and beyond for students, especially when they’re having a hard day, responding with empathy, patience, and care,” the school district reported in a social media post in January, recognizing Karolkiewicz as part of what the district called “Gold Standard Moments.”
“She pours her heart into her work, is always willing to help wherever needed, and helps make Peach Plains a better place to learn and work.”
Mandy went to Western Michigan University and once earned the congeniality title in a Miss Michigan pageant. She had since earned a master’s degree in education, Becky Lawwill said.
Anyone who knew Mandy described her as a light, said her stepfather, who raised her since she was 12.
