9月24日，包信和院士在复旦大学的浦江科学大师讲坛上指出：基础研究并非完全由个人兴趣驱动，在重大应用背景中界定出关键科学问题并探究其规律，同样是基础研究的重要方面。两者也都是原始创新的重要部分。
