厄尔尼诺现象导致巴拿马降雨减少，巴拿马运河3日起下调每日允许船舶通行数量。据巴拿马运河管理局发布的公告，由于为运河供水的人工湖水位下降，9月3日起，运河每日可用通行名额总数从36个减少到34个，其中，新巴拿马型船闸为9个，巴拿马型船闸25个。9月15日起每日通行名额总数将进一步减少到32个。船舶吃水深度从15.24米降至14.63米。
