当地时间7月1日，索尼互动娱乐官方宣布，自2028年1月起，所有在PlayStation平台新发售的游戏将不再推出物理实体光盘，全面转向数字版发行。零售商和线上商店届时仅发售数字版游戏。索尼表示，此举是顺应消费者全面倒向数字媒体的自然趋势。该政策不影响2028年1月前已经发售或计划发售的实体光盘游戏。
