据巴西媒体《环球体育》消息，世界杯1/16决赛前，济科谈到了日本和巴西。
济科回忆起执教日本队时的经历时表示：“还有什么比作为日本队主教练去对阵巴西更难的事吗？我经历过两次。”随后他又说：“如果巴西赢了，那太好了。因为我是巴西人。”
不过济科也补充道：“即使巴西输球，我也不会悲伤。日本足球界也流着一点我的血。”
