当地时间5月14日，美国三大移动运营商AT&T、威瑞森和T-Mobile发表联合声明，称移动通信三巨头已原则上同意成立一家新的合资企业，以推动基于卫星的“直连设备”（Direct-to-Device，D2D）通信技术发展。该合资企业将通过利用基于卫星的技术，解决当前无线网络覆盖缺口，尤其是服务不足和未覆盖地区的问题。
