1948年秋冬，辽沈战役的硝烟刚刚散去，一大批东北子弟兵随军南下。不到一年后，1949年8月，300多名解放军官兵在湖南省桃江县马迹塘的一场战斗中壮烈牺牲。2024年8月26日到30日，国家烈士遗骸搜寻队在湖南开展无名烈士遗骸搜寻发掘现场作业，共搜寻发掘出不少于9具无名烈士遗骸。
