高中十年级，Gabz急着逃离教室时被数学老师叫住。老师从包里掏出学校文学刊物，指着一首关于渐近线（asymptote，无限接近但永不相交的曲线）的诗说：「就算用了笔名，我也知道是你写的。」
Gabz以为又要被随机抽查数学题，结果老师问了个更狠的：「渐近线和相交线，哪个更痛？」
答案是相交线。Gabz讨厌渐近线那种「差一点」的悬置感——看得见却够不着，像一篇改到完美却忘了标「30」（完稿标记）的文章。但她更怕相交线：两条线短暂交汇、确认彼此存在，然后永久分离。她还没准备好承认这个。
那首诗的标题叫《We intersected — and that was the problem》。老师把问题抛回给她时，Gabz正把东西胡乱塞进书包，只想休息。
